Indiewire:

As Cannes market attendance is back to pre-2008 levels, industry insiders agree that more movies will be sold in the festival market this year: not just completed films, but unfinished pictures still in production. Market screenings of footage on such pictures as Walter Salles’ On the Road, which was not ready for festival prime time, are hot tickets.”

TuppenceMagazine:

If you’re a book lover you've probably read one of the great Beats generation novels, Jack Kerouac's On the Road, and now the brilliant piece of spontaneous prose is being made into a film for the first time since it was written back in 1951.

Starring Sam Riley as Sal Paradise (the Roman a clef of Kerouac himself), Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) as Dean Moriarty (Neal Cassidy) and Kristen Steward (Adventureland) as Dean's first wife Mary Lou, the On the Road film is due for release in December 2011.

The film follows Sal and Dean as they journey around America with their friends seeking out one wild adventure after another. Taking in the entire span of the country, including drug fuelled trips to Mexican bordellos, the story is fundamentally about the journeys that the beat generation was all about and a fascination with the people and experiences on the road.

It's always difficult for a book so well know to make the transition to the big screen, so it'll be interesting to see how it shapes up. However, in Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Steward they've given the film the actors that could bring the intricacies of the story to life well.
